How Scamly spots a scam

Scamly is the thing you wish you had the last time you looked at a message and thought “…is this real?” In 3 seconds, our AI reads the message the way a security expert would, and tells you plainly: safe, suspicious, or scam.

1

You paste or snap the message

Three ways to get a message into Scamly:

  • Paste it. Copy any suspicious text and paste it into the Scan tab.
  • Snap it. Tap “Scan a screenshot” to use your phone's camera or gallery.
  • Share it. Long-press any message in WhatsApp, Messages, Mail, or Chrome and pick Scamly from the share menu — we scan it automatically.

That's the whole input. No forms. No sign-up required.

2

Our AI reads it the way an expert would

Behind the scenes, Scamly's AI (powered by Claude Sonnet 4.6, the same technology used by Fortune 500 security teams) looks for the same things a trained analyst would:

  • Urgency pressure — “act now”, countdowns, threats of account closure.
  • Impersonation cues — fake sender names, lookalike domains, forged brand language.
  • Suspicious links — URL shorteners, typo-squats, punycode disguises, fresh domains.
  • Payment traps — gift-card requests, crypto, wire transfers, “verify your card”.
  • Social-engineering patterns — flattery, false authority, sob stories, fake deliveries.

It also checks every link in the message against known safety signals.

3

You get a plain verdict in 3 seconds

Not “possibly bad”. A clear number, a clear colour, and a clear reason:

  • 🟢 Likely Safe (0–39) — No scam signals detected.
  • 🟡 Suspicious (40–69) — Some scam signals. Worth double-checking.
  • 🔴 Likely Scam (70–100) — Multiple scam signals. Do not click, reply, or pay.

Alongside the verdict you get the red flags Scamly spotted, every URL rated and explained, and a plain-English recommendation of what to do next.

4

Act in one tap

Catching a scam is only half the job. Scamly makes the next step a single tap:

  • Warn a family member via SMS or email with a pre-written message.
  • Report it to the right authority in your country.
  • Invite a friend who might be getting the same scam.
  • Trust the sender so you don't waste a scan on them again.
5

Protect the people you love

If you've signed in, you can add trusted guardians (up to 5 on Guard & Family). Every time Scamly confirms a scam on your account, your guardians get a short private email showing the sender, verdict and red flags — never the full message.

Nobody needs to download the app to be a guardian. Just their email address.

What Scamly is not

We'd rather tell you up front than oversell: Scamly is a helpful guide, not a guarantee. AI can miss things, so always double-check important messages through a channel you already trust. Scamly can't recover money that's already been lost, and it doesn't intercept your SMS or email — iOS and Android don't allow that in a privacy-safe way. You bring the message to us.
